It
became obvious
that if someone sat down and carefully went through every word of a single
print of each
book, errors could be eliminated
at source, making
huge savings, both in costs and in reputation of the
burgeoning publishing houses. The proofreader
had come of age
and was now recognised as a tradesman
and not
(just) the
annoying know-all of
the office.
Grammourpuss
Proof
Reading
Services
came into being in 1996 when its
founder member realised that
he had a gift for discovering errors in the output of an imaging company
for whom he was working,
saving them many pounds in reprints. |

Unappreciated,
he decided to
do a course in Proof
Reading and found
that his abilities combined with a specific knowledge of the standards
and methods of the craft availed him of a skill that could be used to good
effect. Today he tirelessly
scans pages rooting
out those little oversights that, when printed out a million times, take
on a more visible appearance. The company continues to grow and Grammourpuss's
clients can sleep soundly in their beds
at night, knowing that the scenarios of enormous job reprints are nothing
but harmless nightmares.
