French Neutral Articles
In French there is no word for "they", so "ils" (the plural of "he") is used when a mixture of masculines and feminines are substituted. "Elles" only gets a look in when all are feminine. There is a word "on" which translates roughly as "one" for a singular of unknown gender - and can be used as a plural, too. Complicated! One finds this method a little haughty in English, though ...
