TouchStar

TouchStar is resolutely not a PDA manufacturer. The company produces handheld computers, peripherals, software and complete solutions aimed directly at the business world. That means tough, weatherproof, usable, connective and reliable gear. They contacted gpuss to express this ethos in the copy for their redesigned website.

The project started with a meeting at TouchStar's headquarters at Trafford Park, Manchester. The copywriter was given demonstrations and talks by members of staff, all experts in their fields. Then it was back to the keyboard to start copywriting. In all, there were 15 product descriptions, about 20 industry applications and 10 case studies, plus a number of miscellaneous pages and pieces of copy right down to thumbnail captions – 65 pages in all.

Many of the applications were quite complex, so a constant channel of communication was kept open with their marketing coordinator. This helped immensely, particularly if a first draft didn't quite hit the spot and a more detailed description was required.
